The CDFI Fund Welcomes a New Director

Washington, DC – Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced Chris Miller as the Director of the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund.

“I am honored to serve as a presidential appointee and Director of the CDFI Fund, bringing my industry experience in community development finance to this important role,” said Mr. Miller. “I look forward to working with the CDFI Fund’s talented team, the industry, and our stakeholders to advance the Administration’s economic agenda, expand access to capital, and create opportunity in communities across America.”

Mr. Miller comes to the CDFI Fund from Three Roots Capital, a Certified CDFI based in Knoxville, Tennessee, where his areas of responsibility included financial and administrative management of Three Roots and its access to capital programs. Additionally, he provided client companies with operational assistance in the areas of financial management, transaction and cash flow modeling, and preparation to raise capital. Mr. Miller has 20 years of experience operating and providing access to capital for small businesses.

Prior to joining Three Roots Capital, Mr. Miller worked as a portfolio manager for a $150 million commercial loan portfolio with small business and middle market exposure. Before working in commercial banking, he was an associate for approximately $50 million of equity funds focused on early-stage and growth-stage investing in southern and central Appalachia where he was responsible for deal origination, due diligence, and portfolio administration.

“I’m happy to welcome Chris to the Treasury team. Chris comes to the CDFI Fund with a strong connection to the CDFI industry and understands what CDFIs need to help generate growth and opportunity in economically disadvantaged communities,” said Alexandria Smith, Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) for Community and Economic Development.

Mr. Miller has an MBA with a concentration in entrepreneurship and financial management from the University of Tennessee, and a BS from the University of North Alabama.
