CDFI Fund to Resume Acceptance of Community Development Entity Certification Applications

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund) will resume acceptance of new applications for Certification as a Community Development Entity (CDE) effective September 9, 2025.

The temporary “blackout” period, originally announced on May 5, 2025, provided an opportunity for the CDFI Fund to assess the resources available on its website. While the blackout will officially lift on September 9, 2025, the CDFI Fund is currently working to update the CDE Certification guidance and other supporting materials designed to facilitate a smoother CDE Certification Application process. Please be on the lookout for additional announcements regarding new or updated resources and guidance in the coming weeks.

Certification as a CDE is required for organizations that wish to apply for tax credit allocation authority under the New Markets Tax Credit Program.
