Get Ready to Apply to the Upcoming CY 2026 New Markets Tax Credit Program Allocation Application Round - $5 Billion in Allocation Authority will be Available!
The upcoming calendar year (CY) 2026 round of the New Markets Tax Credit Program (NMTC Program) will make $5 billion in Allocation Authority available for investments in low income and distressed communities. The CDFI Fund is planning to open the CY 2026 NMTC Program Allocation Application round soon. Organizations interested in applying should review the following information closely.
Important Deadlines for CDE Certification and Subsidiary CDE Certification
To be eligible to apply in the CY 2026 NMTC Program Allocation Application round, a potential Applicant must either: 1) be certified as a Community Development Entity (CDE) as of the Federal Register publication date of the Notice of Allocation Availability (NOAA); or 2) have submitted its CDE Certification Application through the CDFI Fund’s Awards Management Information System (AMIS) by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on August 31, 2026, if the organization is not currently certified. For more information on applying for CDE Certification, please visit: https://www.cdfifund.gov/cde.
In addition, any prior Allocatee that requires action by the CDFI Fund (i.e., certifying a Subsidiary entity as a CDE; adding a Subsidiary CDE to an Allocation Agreement; etc.) in order to meet the Qualified Equity Investment (QEI) issuance thresholds as published in the CY 2026 NOAA, must submit a CDE Certification Application for Subsidiary CDE(s) through AMIS by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on August 31, 2026. Full eligibility information for Applicants, including relevant deadlines and QEI issuance thresholds, will be included in the CY 2026 NOAA when it is published in the Federal Register.
CY 2026 NMTC Application Materials
The CDFI Fund will publish the CY 2026 round Application Materials (Allocation Application, NOAA, Application Frequently Asked Questions, etc.) on the CDFI Fund’s website when the CY 2026 round opens. As a reminder, please review all of the CY 2026 NMTC Application Materials before starting an Application.
Application Registration
Once the NOAA is published and the CY 2026 round opens, the first step potential Applicants must take is to complete and save the Application Registration section of the NMTC Allocation Application in AMIS by the Application Registration deadline. Potential Applicants that do not complete and save the Application Registration by the Application Registration deadline will not be able to subsequently submit a CY 2026 Allocation Application in AMIS. Please be sure to complete this important step.
